JA Biztown at Harrison: Big Thanks to the 6th-grade teacher-team at Harrison Elementary (Dan Graney, Mindy Stookey, & Melissa Landwerlen).
Students worked hard to create resumes and practice interviewing skills before meeting on Thursday, March 31, 2022 with community members.
Volunteers were introduced as a group of professional interviewers contracted by JA Biztown to help leaders determine job placements to run a city for a day. Students had 5 minutes to interview with their “employee.” They spoke about their resume and presented their job application. Volunteers were given an evaluation form to provide helpful feedback.
Thanks go out to the following: Autumn De La Cruz, Jeff Price, Krista Polston, Dan Graney, Ashley Starkweather, Matt Deeds, Kyle Carter, Claudia Isaza, Amanda Scroggs, Kyle Kuhn, and Brad Johnson.
At the close of the event, community volunteers discussed how incredibly polished and prepared students were.
Interview Questions:
Take a moment and please tell me about yourself?
What qualities or skills do you have that would make you a good employee?
Describe yourself in terms of being a Leader or a Team Member.
Talk about your ability to solve problems. Do you have any examples?
If I were to talk to your friends, what words would they use to describe you and why?
Who is someone you admire? What do you admire about them?
A response to the final question (#6) on the interview form yielded an overwhelmingly common & positive response: “My parents because they work hard to provide for us and take care of us.” #heartwarming
It was evident that these young HUSKIES are ready for the next big step…middle school & beyond!
Thanks to all who organized & participated!
